Context

Patient management challenges in crowded emergency department

Queen Elizabeth Hospital, one of Hong Kong's busiest emergency departments, was struggling with the challenge of efficiently locating and transporting patients/equipment in a crowded and hectic environment. With a constant influx of patients, it was becoming increasingly difficult for operation assistants to quickly find and transport patients to the right ward.

Solution

Real-Time Asset Tracking of stretchers based on BLE technology

Enter ATAL, Ubudu's local partner in Hong Kong renowned for its extensive experience in implementing smart technologies across different sectors, implemented Ubudu's Real Time Location System (RTLS) for stretchers in the Hospital. This involved attaching a unique Bluetooth tag to each stretcher and installing multiple Bluetooth transmitters and receivers throughout the hospital. The RTLS system now enables staff to locate a stretcher with ease, simply by inputting the stretcher number into the computer. With this solution, indoor positioning and real-time asset tracking of the stretchers became a reality, streamlining the process of locating patients/equipment and improving the efficiency of hospital operations.

This extra time allows staff to concentrate on clinical and hospital management, leading to improved patient care and treatment.
